US To Continue Iran Talks Despite Ceasefire Strains

President Donald Trump considers Iran's recent attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz to be acts of terrorism

The United States will continue "technical talks" with Iran despite renewed military exchanges that have strained the ceasefire reached last month, according to a U.S. official cited by MS Now.

The official said President Donald Trump considers Iran's recent attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz to be acts of terrorism. However, Washington remains committed to pursuing a diplomatic solution.

According to the report, the memorandum of understanding between the two countries is performance-based, and U.S. officials believe Iran has failed to meet its obligations.

Trump had earlier declared at the NATO summit in Ankara that the ceasefire was "over." Later, he said Iran had contacted the United States seeking a new agreement to halt escalating hostilities, though he questioned whether Tehran could be trusted to honor any deal.

Iran has accused Washington of violating the agreement through renewed military strikes and tighter oil sanctions. Oil prices edged lower in Asian trading on Friday, the report said.
