America’s Waltz With Anarchy

A nation that once exported order now imports chaos.

In the dance between order and anarchy, Liberty’s flame endures calm, steadfast, unbowed.

The Democrats’ actions lead to one unmistakable conclusion: Their bitterness over losing the last election and their hatred for President Trump far outweigh their duty to the people who elected them.

This inexplicable behavior affects not just the Beltway Democrats. A thousand miles away, in Chicago, this strategy of siding with protesters and potentially endangering federal officers of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency is nothing short of perplexing.

At a press conference on Monday morning, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson announced that he signed an executive order creating "ICE Free Zones" to ban ICE agents from city property.

The city of Chicago has long been one of the most crime-ridden metropolitan areas in the United States. Crime is one of the most potent issues in local mayoral elections. But once elected, no mayor has managed to make a dent in crime rates.

When President Trump deployed the National Guard to Chicago to round up criminal aliens and send a message to criminal gangs, the state and local governments should have welcomed his move. Instead, Governor Pritzker, a potential 2028 nominee of the Democratic Party, went on the offensive, even asking the local police to refrain from enforcing law and order when protesters began attacking ICE agents.

Over on the West Coast, in Portland, the resistance to President Trump is so extreme that the term "banana republic" from when Joe Biden was in office needs to be reemployed. Left-wing demonstrators are engaging daily in street fights with federal agents who are simply following orders. Furthermore, a federal judge just ordered Trump not to deploy federal troops to protect federal agents.

If there is one lesson from last year's election, it is that most Americans are opposed to unbridled illegal migration. When illegal migration comes into your backyard, the spotlight switches to the issue of crime.

Much of the Democratic establishment is very strongly connected to liberal elites in economic institutions and think tanks who slice and dice data to convince us that crime is not such a big deal. Mark Twain's dig at selective data analysis is prescient in this context: "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."

With the right set of numbers, anything can be made to look good. When President Trump first deployed the National Guard in Washington, D.C., the Democrats went berserk. Crime was already falling in Washington, D.C., they said, so how could Trump make that an issue?

Anand Giridharadas of The Washington Post said on MSNBC that when he walked around the streets of Washington, D.C., he felt safe, so why was Trump trying to amplify a problem that does not exist?

However, ordinary residents of Washington were very supportive of Trump’s actions. When CNN interviewed residents in the dangerous neighborhoods of South and Southwest D.C., they wanted more National Guard deployment on their streets, not less. One African American resident said, "I am so happy that a lot of Black people support Trump's move to protect their cities...98% of people, Black people that is, want safe streets."

In New York City, Don Lemon, who was fired from CNN and is now a freelancer, was surprised when a citizen, who was incarcerated for assault and battery and is now released, said: "Crack down MORE. I've been wanting it all my life. Get 'em all out of here, please and thank you. Trump 4 more years."

Long-standing practices of law and order have repeatedly proven that the presence of uniformed, armed police serves as a deterrent to local crime. Indeed, Muriel Bowser, the Democratic mayor of Washington, D.C., and a strong political opponent of President Trump, testified before Congress that, on balance, the deployment of the National Guard was beneficial to her residents.

She was forced to embrace such a conciliatory position because the chief of the Washington, D.C., police union went on record to state that the National Guard had been a net positive force for policing in the district. With carjacking and other street crimes down by nearly 90%, the nation's capital is once again becoming the tourist attraction it once was.

Democrats charge that President Trump is being authoritarian in going after crime. However, it is reasonable to ask what triggered this problem. Wasn't President Biden, with his auto pen, being authoritarian and immensely irresponsible when he signed executive orders to grant temporary protected status to nearly one million illegal aliens?

Was President Biden not complicit in creating America's illegal immigration crisis when he stood by and allowed 19 million immigrants to enter the country? Was it not the Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement of the Biden administration who went on record to admit that hundreds of thousands of these illegal aliens have a background in violent crime? Wasn't it true that the mayors of the big cities requested assistance to the tune of tens of billions of dollars to fight street crime triggered by the invasion of illegal aliens?

President Trump won a landslide election running on illegal immigration and crime as the top two line items of the GOP platform. He carried all seven battleground states, a feat that no Republican president has achieved since Ronald Reagan in 1984.

Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania have repeatedly oscillated between the two parties, more often than not siding with the Democrats. For these states to have voted for Trump, when the Democrats cast him as such a threat to democracy that they pursued 94 legal cases against him to prevent him from even running, shows that voters had become sick of immigration, crime, inflation, and woke DEI policies that had nothing to do with their priorities.

President Trump is 100% correct in claiming a decisive mandate. Yet, the Democrats have continued to engage in intense civil disobedience and resistance through the use of activist judges. Now, with their support of violent clashes against federal law enforcement, the Democrats risk pushing America's great cities toward civil conflict.
